You can get a 1-year extension direction from Microsoft by enrolling in the Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program if you can't or don't want to upgrade to Windows 11, or if you can't afford a new computer. - LEARN MORE HERE

Can I keep using Windows 10 even after it expires?

While technically you "can" keep using Windows 10 even after the October 2025 deadline, it's NOT recommended because you will no longer receive support or security updates from Microsoft. If you have a critical need to keep running Windows 10, Microsoft will allow you to purchase a 1-year extension to receive security updates for another year.

Can I upgrade my hardware to Windows 11?

Microsoft has higher security and hardware requirements for Windows 11, so it depends on your specific hardware. Microsoft provides a free tool called the PC Health Check app.

If my hardware can run Windows 11, is the upgrade free?

If you have a valid Windows 10 license and your hardware meets all of the requirements to run Windows 11, Microsoft does allow you to upgrade your computer for free. There are many things to consider before upgrading to Windows 11 however, such as whether all of your existing peripherals (printers, scanners, keyboards, mice etc.) have updated drivers for Windows 11. If you run any older applications, you must also determine if the software is Windows 11 compatible, or whether they offer free upgrades to newer versions of that software that ARE compatible with Windows 11.
